A Lot is Happening in Waco!!
There really is nothing like Texas. Although the days can sometimes be brutally hot (the nights can be quite warm too), you just cannot find the atmosphere, warmth, and personality of Texas anywhere else. There is just something about it that cannot be replicated anywhere.
There is no state like Texas and there is no city like Waco. Waco, Texas is quickly becoming one of the cultural meccas of the Lone Star State. There is a growing list of amazing and entertaining things to do in Waco. While the city was once best known as home to Baylor University, there is so much more to do now than simply watch a riveting football game. Whether you are looking to drink something delicious, eat something homemade and genuinely Texan, or spend time with family and friends, Waco has the right choice for you.
Drink History at the Dr. Pepper Museum
Did you know that the delicious, savory soda Dr. Pepper was originally first produced and sold right here in Waco? It’s true, one of America’s favorite soft drinks is from deep in the heart of Texas.
When visiting the Dr. Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute, not only will you get to learn the history of this iconic drink, you’ll also get to try some too. You’ll experience exhibits, collections, stories and, of course, a wonderful gift shop.
The museum is historic in its own right, having been built back in 1906 and used as a bottling center for decades. It’s been wowing visitors since 1991. There are few better ways to spend a day in Waco than by learning a bit about Dr. Pepper’s story and then sipping some and snacking on ice cream.
Take a Trip Through Time at Waco Mammoth National Monument
Back in 1978, two men were touring the Bosque River searching for arrowheads. What they found was something much, much bigger. They stumbled upon a buried bone that was far larger than anything they had seen before. In the end, Baylor University would investigate the site and eventually uncover the remains of 24 Columbian Mammoths, some of which were up to 14 feet tall. The bones dated back to the ice age and had been buried deep below Waco’s ground for more than 68,000 years.
At the Waco Mammoth National Monument, you will be able to explore those bones and learn the history of them. It’s an exhibit unlike any other. It’s like taking a trip thousands of years back in time and it’s only possible in Waco.

Tour the Waco Suspension Bridge
Back in 1870, it was nearly impossible to pass the dangerous and difficult Brazos River. But then the Waco Supension Bridge was built and the city blossomed even more. Many think that the success of Waco wouldn’t have been possible without the suspension bridge, which is all the more reason for you to visit it and get an up close view of history.
The bridge, consisting of almost 3 million bricks, used to be a major thoroughway in Waco but it was deemed a historic landmark in 1971 and promptly closed to vehicles. Now it’s a place for families to explore and admire, looking down at the gorgeous river below while enjoying a beautiful Texas sunset.
